About Luca
Every creative project is an intense experience, there is a good chance that you could overlook a lot of things in the face of such an experience. The geniuses in their respective art form is those who could master such a creative process and work out its kinks beyond any imperfections.
Is luca a work of genius, No. but is it a good movie, I think it is
Now Luca is a Malayalam movie by debut director Arun Bose , and it features Tovino Thomas and Ahaana Krishna in the lead roles. It is a story about the love between an artist and a strong woman, not an entirely fresh concept, but plus points to the team to make it as fresh as it can be by giving it a different treatment than most movies out there.
Let’s talk about what i liked about the movie first. The story is a good one, it has tension and a sense of involvement to it , there is ample character development, and a good structure. I also liked the performance by the lead duo. Tovino Thomas and Aahana Krishna really gave their best to their respective roles , and I think Tovino did edge out Aahana in the acting department.

The thing that I really liked about the movie was the lead duo’s relationship, it was really flushed out, they had a good chemistry and whenever they were together in the screen we could understand why those two cared for each other, there was no sudden leaps in that dynamics, everything was gradual and natural, and that relationship is something i wish i had in my life.
By theory, the setting up, the conflict and the payoff was all there in the movie. But not everything is so good. About the setting up, apart from our main duo in the movie there are a couple of important supporting characters in this movie, their acting was not exactly perfect, in fact it was all over the place, in some instances it was acceptable, good even. But there are other parts where it all just falls off. The dialogue wasn’t good either, sometimes it just didn’t hold up. That was really sad to watch because these characters do carry the movie forward.
It is the same about sound track too, it has a couple of good songs, but the background score on certain parts was overused and it stood out like a sore thumb, there wasn’t anything particularly appreciable about the cinematography either, it was nothing more than a background noise.
But more often than not you judge a movie by the taste it leaves in your tongue , and for me Luca was a good experience. I left the theater with a satisfied mind, the third act of the movie is something interesting, and there could be people out there that didn’t buy that, but for me it was acceptable, and I was genuinely surprised by it, I think Arun Bose did an Appreciable job in Luca, I’m hoping that he will step up his game in the coming ventures of his. Also I would recommend Luca, Go and Watch it, I think you’ll like what you see.
[Also did i mention that Tovino looks dashing in this movie ]
